Introduction

Seventeen projects in Wales have received national acclaim in the 2001 Civic Trust Awards Scheme. Two projects received awards, nine received commendations, and six received special mentions in this national awards scheme for outstanding architecture and environmental design.
This represents Wales’ greatest success in the Civic Trust Awards since 1990. In 2000, there were just seven successful projects in Wales.
It is especially pleasing to note that the successful schemes come from all sectors of environmental development in Wales: the public, private and voluntary sectors, with local authority projects well represented.
We are delighted that HSBC plc has agreed to sponsor the first all-Wales Civic Trust Awards Ceremony. This will take place at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on 27 July 2001. Elfed Roberts, HSBC's General Manager, says:
"HSBC plc is committed to quality and innovation in its services to customers and we are delighted to support the Wales Civic Trust Awards Ceremony.
"The seventeen successful schemes demonstrate creative imagination, an awareness of environmental and social context, and responsiveness to the needs of their users. The Ceremony is an opportunity to showcase good design in Wales, reflecting HSBC's commitment to Wales, its communities, and its economy."
