Civic Trust Awards

Mentioned in despatches

Three Welsh projects were celebrated at the 2007 Civic Trust Awards. Recognised as one of the UK's most prominent award for architecture and design, the Awards date back over forty-five years. Projects outside the major cities of the UK were eligible this year. In a departure from tradition, entries for each year's awards can in future come from anywhere in the UK and submissions will be able to be made online.

Commended

Allt-y-Bela, Monmouthshire

Allt-y-belaThis is a remarkable exemplar restoration of a 16th century hall and tower house, which was derelict and thought to be beyond repair. Traditional materials have been used wherever possible, and original material, such as old plasterwork and doors, has been re-used. The building now provides a local historical insight and its restoration has carefully paid attention to detail. It is a simple and attractive restoration.
