INFORMATION FOR ORGANISERS
Open Doors/European Heritage Days offer free
access to properties that are usually closed to the public or
which normally charge for admission. An Open Doors event can
be a context in which to offer a fresh look at the apparently
familiar; to put on show the work of specialists involved in
conservation or interpretation; to let the public “behind
the scenes” in a museum or gallery; or to offer a rare
opportunity to view a private property. The event is supported
by the Welsh Assembly Government through Cadw, and organised
by the Civic Trust for Wales, which works with its partners to
promote European Heritage Days in the British Isles.
Sites can be of many kinds, including public buildings, houses,
castles, churches, archaeological or industrial sites, museums and gardens.
Good contemporary buildings represent tomorrow's heritage and are sure to excite
visitors. Town trails and guided walks, perhaps linked to exhibitions or talks,
invite us to look about ourselves with fresh eyes. Events can be organised
by local authorities, amenity societies, arts centres, museums, voluntary trusts
or private owners. There are plenty of opportunities to form local partnerships
to organise a programme for a town or district.
The Trust will promote the event across the three weekends.
Organisers can choose the days on which they want to take part. The European
Heritage Days programmes in Wales, Scotland, Ireland and England have a high
national profile, and provided we have accurate details of your event we can
ensure wide publicity. Events will be published online and details will also be available in print on request. Information is provided to all libraries and
tourism information points. Press releases are issued to the national and local
media.
Detailed advice is given to organisers of participating events
on access, local publicity, interpretation and health and safety issues. An
insurance policy covering public and employer's liability
will be available which can supplement your own insurance.. We will offer a variety of graphic resources as downloads or on CD to help you with local publicity.
