Court Farm
Court Farm, Pembrey
(Friends of Court Farm/Carmarthenshire Building Preservation Trust)
18, 25 Sep tours at 2 and 3.30

Court Farm is a large Elizabethan manor house. It dates to the mid 16th century, but may incorporate medieval structure. It has an intriguing castellated barn. It is one of the earliest Welsh storeyed houses and is the largest pre-Renaissance manor house in Carmarthenshire. It is special because of its size and height. It may be the most important building of its type in Wales. Additions in the early 17th century included a kitchen, a new roof and windows, and some fine panelling in the main bedroom. Later in the same century, a north wing, which included servants' quarters, was added. There have been very few changes since. The remains give a unique insight into an early-modern great house of the period. Today it is largely in ruins, but volunteers are working hard to clear the debris and undergrowth. Visitors will be able to see the largely intact remains. The Trust plans to restore Court Farm and find a viable use for the property. The tours will be led by local experts in the family history of the Court and its architecture.
