A HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT NETWORK FOR WALES: Participants pdf (185kb) At recent Treftadaeth conferences, voluntary sector participants debated the need for a network that would bring together all those groups in Wales concerned with the historic environment. They had in mind the models of Wales Environment Link, and the English Heritage Link, which have proven to be successful in sharing information and good practice, capacity building, and policy formation, amongst other roles. At the end of 2008 the Civic Trust, working with its partners, the National Trust, the Institute of Historic Building Conservation and the WCVA, put a proposal to Cadw that envisaged a two year development project to bring a historic environment network into being in Wales. This was debated and supported in outline by the Historic Environment Group. On May 7, a wide range of participants from the voluntary sector and associated organisations met to debate issues relating to role and governance, prior to discussions with Cadw on the way ahead. The report is published here. Comments are welcome and we will update the document with any corrections that are suggested. In conformity with the proposal at the meeting, a small initial steering group will shortly be convened to meet with Cadw and work out an action plan for the development of a network. Meanwhile, the Minister welcomed a verbaln report on progress at his meeting with representatives of the voluntary sector on 2 June 2009. 18.5.09 rev 2.6.09 |
