Background

A HERITAGE NETWORK FOR WALES:
THE WAY FORWARD

Following the May 7 seminar at Llandrindod Wells, the aspirations of the sector were presented to the Minister for Heritage at the Treftadaeth meeting in Aberystwyth on 2 July. At the same time a steering group was formed, based on the mandate from the May 7 meeting. The group met for the first time on 2 September.

Its members are:

John Crompton (Welsh Mills Group)
Alex Glanville (Church in Wales)
Matthew Griffiths (The Civic Trust for Wales)
Edward Holland (The Prince's Regeneration Trust)
Erika Kluge (National Trust)
Emma Plunkett-Dillon (CBA Wales)
Richard Spencer Dean (IHBC)

Representatives from Cadw, Cymal, WCVA and the HLF act as advisors.

The steering group considered took stock of the outputs from May 7 and took on board advice from Cadw and Cymal. It agreed to put together a paper on the way forward which would inform bids for development funding. This paper would form the focus of the next meeting on 15 October. Following that meeting, a direct progress report would be e-mailed to organisations that had taken part in the May 7 meeting, and expressions of interest and comments requested from them.
