The UK Civic Trusts

The Civic Trust for Wales works alongside partners in Scotland, England and the North of England. We share a number of guiding principles:

  • To foster a strong sense of civic pride and community cohesion in cities, towns and villages
  • To assist and support a UK wide network of local groups committed to similar goals
  • To promote and practise the principles of sustainable development in all its dimensions
  • To promote high standards of development and design
  • To increase awareness, appreciation and conservation of our built heritage
  • To work together to promote and represent the partnership in Europe
  • To help citizens of all ages, as individuals and groups, play a fulfilling role in their communities through educational inititiatives

The combined resources of the four organisations represent a comprehensive range of activities and responsibilities, often undertaken in partnership with governments, local authorities, the private sector and community groups. Within the partnership there are links to European organisations, a comprehensive framework for initiating and managing area regeneration projects, and the services of a Building Preservation Trust.
