Members of Haverfordwest Civic Society have put together a video
that tells the story of the their town. "Harford: a special
place, a special people". The film, which has been two years
in the making, covers the centuries from the colonisation of Pembrokeshire
by Normans and Flemings in the 11th century to the present day.
This is the society's second video; they celebrated the millennium
with "Memories of a century", which sold over 600 copies,
and was centred around the memories of four local residents. Now,
with funding from the town council, and the support of the county
council and other local bodies, they have created something even
more ambitious, helped by Mike Dyson, visual aids officer for Pembrokeshire.
The film includes live action footage of the Civil Wars, recreated
by the Sealed Knot, as well as contributions from historians, Tom
Lloyd, Robert Scourfield, and Sybil Edwards.
Recent changes in the town, not all for the better, are debated
with long-serving civic society chairman, Gerald Oliver.
Director Barrie Burgess is delighted with what is a genuine community
video, all the better for being out just in time for Christmas!
